Australian medical researcher Dr Paul Giacomin has successfully used hookworms to alleviate the symptoms of coeliac disease. Coeliac sufferers experience an autoimmune reaction to gluten which results in damage to the small intestine. He's working towards developing a more palatable pill-based medicine based on his research.
