Clint Buffington collects and finds messages in bottles - and he's found over 80.
Most of the bottles were found while he was on holiday near the sea – he’s a teacher and works in the landlocked state of Utah.
Clint first discovered a message in a bottle in May 2007 on an uninhabited island in the Carribean, and now spends lots of time walking along the beach looking for them.
He told RNZ’s Bryan Crump he has met with 11 people who have sent messages in bottles.
While he’s had a lot of help from social media in tracing them, he says most people only supply more traditional information to track them down.
“I have found messages in bottles that were young enough that people should’ve included their email address, but they only include their home address."
He says messages in bottles are an analogue way of communicating and people seem to prefer to keep it that way.
