Angela Walker and her WW2 airman father

From Nights, 7:12 pm on 13 April 2017

Angela's father Ian was part of a night fighter squadron based at Manston. After the Battle of Britain, he joined 115 Squadron and flew scores of death-defying missions over Germany in Wellington Bombers. Gunned down over Brussels, Ian became a POW. He plotted a daring escape - and succeeded! - before being recaptured and eventually repatriated home, after he and several hundred other Allies, were exchanged for German POW's in Barcelona. Angela reveals many surprising discoveries about her father, including how he inspired her to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal. Angela has worked in London and Sydney, and is the former Athlete Life Advisor for High Performance Sport New Zealand.
