10:05 The merits of single sex education

Dr Leonard Sax, American psychologist, family doctor, and educator, who argues that gender does matter in education, and a generation of boys, in particular, is paying the price for an education system that's neglected this.
Dr Leonard Sax is the director of the National Association for Single Sex Public Education, and is in New Zealand next month to speak at several single sex schools including Auckland's St Cuthbert's College and Dilworth School, and at Iona College, Lindisfarne College and Woodford House, Hawke's Bay.
He is the author of Why Gender Matters (Doubleday, 2005), and of Boys Adrift: the five factors driving the growing epidemic of unmotivated boys and underachieving young men (Basic Books, 2007).
Leonard Sax cites research from Harvard Medical School, the US National Institute of Health, and various European studies, to argue that no one-size-fits-all education programme can be successfully applied across the sex divide, but that both girls and boys will flourish in environments that are shaped to their gender-specific requirements.
