The insurance Ombudsman, Karen Stevens, is urging the incoming government to immediately draft new insurance legislation to prevent thousands of people from having their health or life insurance policies voided if they forget to disclose facts to their insurer.

Sixteen-year-old high school student, Louise McNally of Strathallan ACG College in Karaka has won the Association former Members of Parliament's national essay competition. She had to answer the question: How would you increase young people's understanding and participation in our democratic process? Louise McNally argues that students in all schools should elect classroom leaders to stimulate interest in the political process, and engagement in democracy.

Solid Energy says it is still working out whether it is safe to re-enter the Pike River mine because it has legal responsibilities regarding safety of those sent in. Documents from Worksafe released under the Official Information Act show a re-entry plan for the main tunnel is safe and feasible. But Solid Energy's chief executive Dan Clifford, says that is Worksafe's opinion, and the company needs to form its own Bob Stevenson is the former UK Principal Mines Inspector who has been providing advice to the Pike River families.

10:05 Jaspreet Singh on writing fiction about the trauma of India's past
Born in India, Jaspreet Singh moved to Canada in 1990. He is a novelist, essayist, short story writer and a former research scientist. He received his doctorate in chemical engineering in 1998, and two years later decided to focus full time on writing. Seventeen Tomatoes, his debut story collection, won the 2004 Quebec First Book Prize. Chef, his first novel, about the damaged landscapes of Kashmir, was a 2010 Observer 'Book of the Year' in the UK and won the Canadian Georges Bugnet Prize for Fiction. His second novel, Helium, tells the story of the 1984 massacres of Sikhs in India, which he witnessed himself as a teenager. Jaspreet's work has been translated into French, Spanish, Italian, Punjabi and Farsi, and he has recently been writing stories for children.
