Getting Kids to Behave

From Nine To Noon, 11:22 am on 4 December 2014

Sad pouty girl PD PixabayParenting commentator, Nathan Mikaere Wallis of X Factor Education and The Brain Wave Trust has tips on how to get children to do what you want them to do.

He says it is all about how you tell the child what you want from them.

And the three worst things you can do are:

- punishing away the behaviour

- Inconsistency

- Withdrawal of love

And the three best techniques are:

- Reward good behaviour

- Induce the child to what you want as if it was their idea in the first place

- Cognitive training - rather than focussing on what they did wrong, tell them exactly what they should have done instead

Nathan Mikaere Wallis explains how it works and answers questions from parents on Nine to Noon with Kathryn Ryan.
