Marty Duda's artist of the week: Sleater-Kinney

From Nine To Noon, 11:06 am on 28 January 2015

After announcing their hiatus in 2006, Sleater-Kinney are back with a new album, 'No Cities To Love'. The trio began as part of the Riot Girrrl scene in the Northwest US in the early 1990s. But the band quickly escaped any stigma or stereotype to become one of the best punk-infused indie bands of their era. Fortunately it is their era once again, and they haven't missed a beat. In the interim, guitarist/singer Carrie Brownstein has made a name for herself acting in the TV comedy series Portlandia, while bandmates Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss have continued to make music with various artists. 'No Cities To Love' is being touted as one of the year's best. Granted, its only January, but check back in December, I bet they'll still be in the running.
