Farmers pledge to improve water - but how?

Seven groups including Fonterra, Dairy NZ and Federated Farmers say they want New Zealand's rivers to be `swimmable' for the next generations. Environmental and recreational groups cautiously welcomed the commitment, but say more detail was needed urgently about how this would be achieved.Already, Federated Farmers has rejected the idea that reducing the national dairy herd is the way to improve water quality.
