In what is a first, a new book looks at where to from here for Kaupapa Māori - the Māori way of doing things. Dr Te Kawehau Hoskins, Senior Lecturer at Te Puna Wananga (school of Maori and indigenous education) in the Faculty of Education and Social Work at the University of Auckland, has written several chapters and co-edited "Critical Conversations in Kaupapa Māori". Dr Hoskins tells Kathryn Ryan that indigenous communities around the world look up to Kaupapa Māori, but that while New Zealanders are interested in the cultural aspects of Kaupapa Māori they are a little less comfortable with the politics of the Maori world, and that now is a good time to critique this philosophy.
