Mounting casualties in the wine industry

Hawke's Bay's Paritua Vineyards, along with Cape Campbell Wines, Gravitas Wines and Awatere Vineyard Estates, a large contract grower in Marlborough, have all gone into receivership this year. Other wineries are battling to stay afloat by cutting staff. There are 'For Sale' signs up on 76 vineyards nationwide according to the website realestate.co.nz, 50 percent more than in 2007 and most of 2008.
