Peter Holland - Home in the Howling Wilderness

From Nine To Noon, 11:22 am on 5 February 2013

Peter Holland is geography professor at Otago University and author of 'Home in the Howling Wilderness: Settlers and the Environment in Southern New Zealand'. 'Home in the Howling Wilderness' explores the relationship between 19th century European settlers and the land they farmed in the South Island. Gleaning fresh perspectives from diaries, newspapers and other primary sources, he pieces together the challenges faced by Pakeha farmers, and addresses the environmental legacy they left behind.
