Artist of the Week - Fred Wesley: As bandleader for James Brown and leader of the George Clinton-sactioned Horny Horns, Fred Wesley was one of the prime innovators of 1970s funk. His trombone is all over James Brown's funkiest recordings and along with Maceo Parker and Bootsy Collins he got George Clinton's Parliament-Funkadelic thang off the ground. Since then, Fred has toured with fellow JB Horns mates Maceo Parker and Pee Wee Ellis, along with making his own jazz recordings. Fred and his very funky band will perform at Auckland's Powerstation this Thursday.
