Marty Duda's artist of the week - Smokey Robinson

From Nine To Noon, 11:10 am on 19 February 2014

He has written many great songs over the last 50 years including Tears Of A Clown, Ooo Baby Baby, I Second That Emotion, My Girl, My Guy, Shop Around, Get Ready and You've Really Got A Hold On Me to name but a few. He, along with Berry Gordy, Jr, was also responsible for making Motown Records the hit-making machine it became in the 1960s. Together with The Miracles he scored the label's first million seller with Shop Around, then followed it with many more. In addition he also wrote hits for Mary Wells, The Temptations, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye and many others. Smokey went solo in the 70s and had continued success. His 'Quiet Storm' album helped give birth to a whole new radio format and his influence reached beyond Detroit to Liverpool and The Beatles and just about anyone who has written a song in the last 50 years.
