Reforms proposed for the teaching profession in a new report

From Nine To Noon, 9:23 am on 5 March 2014

Former Auckland Grammar headmaster, John Morris is one of the authors of a New Zealand initiative report 'Teaching Stars: Transforming the Teaching Profession'. The report says teachers' pay scales should be rejigged and extended, and they should apply for progression rather than receive it automatically as they do now. Their performance could be assessed not just on NCEA pass rates, but should include broader measures such as on-the-job learning, mentoring of junior teachers, and contributions within the school environment.
