At the age of 12, Elizabeth Marvelly began taking weekly singing lessons in Auckland, a three hour drive from her home in Rotorua. When she was 16 she toured nationally with Sir Howard Morrison and Dame Malvina Major and a year later she was the Variety Artists' club "rising star" for 2007. By the end of that year she'd recorded her debut album with Carl Doy and The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. It went gold within days of its release.
