Resthomes have been home to hundreds of disabled New Zealanders simply because there’s been nowhere else for them to be given the care they need. Recently, IRIS opened a new model for community living in Tauranga. It’s a small cluster of two and three bedroom flats and has become home to a number of pre-retirement aged people who had been living in aged care facilities. One in Five was at the opening ceremony and heard how the new living arrangements have changed their lives.
