Don and his wife Saree run Specialised Charter Services which takes members of the disabled community on outings of every type, including party weekends around the country and overseas trips as far afield as Fiji and the United States.

Mr Nordhaus says they cater for a variety of disabilities but in recent times have concentrated on clients who are intellectually challenged. He says, in 26 years, he's made hundreds of friends and, although retirement is looming he expects to maintain contact with his many clients.

Mr Nordhaus says, in that time, he's also witnessed significant personal growth in his clients as they too have formed new friends and social networks.
