Nelson-based geologist Alan Hart has worked on the frontline of the oil industry for over 30 years. Since 2006, he has been on the board of directors of a US-registered company, Sentry Petroleum Ltd, which is concentrating on petroleum exploration efforts in New Zealand, Australia and South-East Asia. For the last five years, he has been giving free lectures to civic groups, schools and business organisations on the impending petroleum crisis.

Leilani Rickard is a weaver who lives in Rotorua. She was first taught how to make piupiu in the 1970s when she was employed as a permanent guide at Whakarewarewa. Her first book, How to Make a Piupiu (Raupo, ISBN: 978-014-3009450-0) is dedicated to her four grandchildren.

One of New Zealand's foremost painters and printmakers, John Reynolds represented New Zealand last year at the Sydney Biennale with his work Cloud. Based in Auckland, he was one of the 2006 Arts Foundation of New Zealand laureates, and his work is held in all major private and public New Zealand collections. A new limited edition book, Certain Words Drawn (Godwit, ISBN-13: 9781869621490), edited by University of Auckland professor Laurence Simmons, brings together examples of his recent work and practice alongside a range of essays.

Economist Greg Clydesdale, of Massey University's management and international business department, is the author of a controversial report looking at the New Zealand economy and the impact of immigration from different cultures. It will be presented at a conference in Brazil in July. He is also the author of a study into how internal competition enhanced the Beatles' creative productivity, and the arranger and producer of a new CD, Legacy (Legacy/Triton), which features vocalist Kerry Glockling and updated versions of cantatas by J.S. Bach.
