8:35 Chris Amon

Former motor racing driver Chris Amon was active in Formula One racing during the 1960s and 70s, and is widely regarded to be one of the best drivers never to win a championship Grand Prix. He and fellow New Zealand drivers Bruce Maclaren and Denny Hulme are celebrated at Formula One - The Great Design Race, an exhibition at Te Papa marking the 50th anniversary of New Zealand's first Formula One Grand Prix victory at the 1959 US Grand Prix, and the design and technological innovations that have driven the sport. It opens on 15 July and runs to 1 November.

Brisbane-based social innovator David Engwicht is an international leader of efforts to reduce the negative impacts of motor vehicle traffic in urban areas. He is known for his work around traffic calming, walking buses and street reclamation, and has written several books including Reclaiming Our Cities and Towns: Better Living Through Less Traffic (1993), Street Reclaiming: Creating Livable Streets and Vibrant Communities (1999), and Mental Speed Bumps: The Smarter Way To Tame Traffic (2005). He lectures worldwide on transportation and community, and is visiting Auckland for a series of meetings and seminars.

10:05 Colwyn Trevarthen

New Zealand biologist and psychologist Colwyn Trevarthen is Professor (Emeritus) of Child Psychology and Psychobiology at The University of Edinburgh, where he has taught since 1971. For the past 30 years he has been a pioneer in the study of the musical nature of the relationships infants have with their parents and the ways such relationships support children's brain development, communication, learning and emotional health. Professor Trevarthen visited New Zealand for the Music '09 conference in Christchurch to present an address entitled Making Moving Music: How Innate Rhythms of Life Become Fabulous Art in Sound.

10:40 Graeme Tuckett

Wellington filmmaker and reviewer Graeme Tuckett is the writer and director of The Camera on the Shore, which explores the life and work of New Zealand director Barry Barclay. Graeme's documentary receives its world premiere on Saturday 11 July as part of a retrospective programme of Barclay's work, screening at the 2009 New Zealand International Film Festival. The Festival opened this week in Auckland and travels to other centres in the weeks ahead.

Auckland novelist and short fiction writer Emily Perkins came to public attention with her 1996 book, Not Her Real Name and Other Stories (Picador), which won the Faber Award in the UK. She was chosen as the 2006 Buddle Findlay Sargeson Fellow, which allowed her to work on Novel About My Wife (Bloomsbury, ISBN: 978-074759-650-9), a Fiction finalist in the 2009 Montana Book Awards.

Auckland writer Melinda Szymanik won the Children's Choice Award and was a finalist in the Picture Book section at the 2009 NZ Post Book Awards for her book, The Were-nana (Not a Bedtime Story), illustrated by Sarah Anderson (Scholastic, ISBN: 9781869438692).
