8:15 George Lakey

George Lakey is the founder of the strategic non-violence group Training for Change, and recently retired as director after 15 years to direct a research project at Swarthmore College in Philadelphia. He is the author of several books, and is currently writing a book about Norway.

8:30 Peter Peryer

Peter Peryer took up photography in his 30s, and for over three decades has been exhibiting his work in New Zealand and overseas. The book, Peter Peryer: Photographer by Peter Simpson and Peter Peryer (Auckland University Press, ISBN: 978-1-86940-417-8), features the largest body of his work ever assembled, and an autobiographical essay by the photographer. It is a finalist in the Illustrative category of the 2009 Montana New Zealand Book Awards.

Fred Kaplan has written about politics and culture for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, and The Atlantic, and is currently the War Stories columnist for online magazine Slate. He is the author of the 2008 book, Daydream Believers: How a Few Grand Ideas Wrecked American Power, and the new title, 1959: The Year Everything Changed (Wiley, ISBN: 978-0470387818).

10:05 Playing Favourites with George Henderson

For the last 25 years, George D. Henderson has been the "unstable core" of a revolving line-up of musicians known as The Puddle. The group released three albums and a 7" single on Flying Nun between 1986 and 1993, and in 1993 recorded the album Songs for Emily Valentine, which remained unreleased until 2005. Since then, The Puddle released the albums No Love - No Hate (2006), and The Shakespeare Monkey (2009), both on FishriderRecords. The Puddle are currently midway through their first New Zealand tour since the early 1990s, and will play in Wellington (Aunt Daisy's Boathouse, Titahi Bay, 17 July; Happy, 18 July), Hamilton (Ward Lane, 24 July), and Auckland (Bacco, 23 July; Dogs Bollix, 25 July).

Ursula Le Guin writes for children and adults, and has won many awards, including a National Book Award and the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement. Her new novel, Lavinia (Gollancz, ISBN: 9780575084599), is a re-imagining of the last six books of Virgil's Aeneid, and is her first adult novel for a decade.

11:45 Glen Levy

Martial arts instructor, motivational speaker and comedian Glen Levy was brought up in Thames, and is now a professional Hollywood stuntman. He was the lead stunt double in the fantasy TV series Legend of the Seeker, currently screening in New Zealand, and will run a one-day self-protection seminar, Protect Yourself, on Sunday 26 July in Auckland.
