8:15 Tom Feiling

Tom Feiling is a writer and documentary film-maker who recently published his first book, The Candy Machine: How Cocaine Took Over the World (Penguin, ISBN: 0141034467). Prior to this, he spent a year in Colombia as Campaigns Director for Justice for Colombia, a British NGO that campaigns for human rights and social justice, and making the documentary Resistencia: Hip-Hop in Colombia.

8:35 Rod Carr

Rod Carr is Vice-Chancellor of The University of Canterbury, which recently launched New Zealand's first philanthropic listed bond issue to raise $50 million, and the Canterbury V5 project, which aims to find projects with the potential to generate $100 million each in revenue for the Canterbury region within five years and $1 billion or more within 20 years. Rod is a former managing director of Jade Software Corporation and a former Deputy Governor and Director of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. He is legally blind, an open-ocean swimmer, and marathon runner.

9:05 Richard Gage

Richard Gage is a member of Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth, a collaboration of more than 874 architectural and engineering professionals who are re-examining the high-rise collapses of the World Trade Centre buildings in the light of scientific evidence that the collapses of the Twin Towers and WTC Building 7 were not adequately explained by the official theories outlined in the 2002 FEMA and 2005 and 2008 NIST reports. Richard Gage will speak at a free public seminar, The Architecture of Destruction, at Te Papa in Wellington, on Saturday 21 November from 2:00pm; at the WEA in Christchurch on Friday 27 November from 7:00pm; and at Trades Hall in Grey Lynn, Auckland, on Monday 30 November from 6:00pm.

9:45 Kate's Klassic: Anna Karenina

Kate Camp will discuss the 1877 novel Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy (Penguin Classics, ISBN: 9780140449174), originally published in serial installments from 1873 to 1877 in the periodical, The Russian Messenger.

10:05 Jarvis Cocker

Jarvis Cocker rose to fame in the mid-1990s as the front man for the British band Pulp, which has been on hiatus since 2002. Now based in Paris, he has released two solo albums - Jarvis (2006), and Further Complications (2009), collaborated with the likes of Nancy Sinatra and Charlotte Gainsbourg, worked on movies (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Fantastic Mr Fox), and as a broadcasting host and cultural critic. He visits New Zealand next month for concerts in Wellington (Town Hall, 2 December) and Auckland (Powerstation, 4 December).

11:05 Food with David Burton

David Burton writes about food and dining for Cuisine magazine and the Dominion Post newspaper, and is the author of a number of books including The Raj at Table and French Colonial Cookery. He has revised and expanded his 1982 book, Two Hundred Years of New Zealand Food, now titled David Burton's New Zealand Food and Cookery (Bateman, ISBN: 978-1-86953-728-9). David will discuss and consume kina.

11:30 Peter Hunter

Biomedical engineer Professor Peter Hunter of The University of Auckland, was presented with New Zealand's top science honour, the 2009 Rutherford Medal, at this year's Royal Society of New Zealand annual Science Honours Dinner on 18 November. He is probably best known for his mathematical modeling of the human body, which should eventually help advance treatments for a number of life-threatening diseases. Professor Hunter co-leads the international Physiome Project, a worldwide public effort to provide a computational framework for understanding human physiology, and is a Fellow of both the Royal Society of New Zealand and the Royal Society (London), and chair of the Marsden Fund Council.
