Dr. Ravi Batra is a professor of economics at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, and the author of five best-selling books. His 1978 book, The Downfall of Capitalism and Communism, predicted the downfall of the Soviet Union, and his 2008 book, The New Golden Age: The Coming Revolution against Political Corruption and Economic Chaos (Palgrave Macmillan, ISBN: 978-0230613959), predicted the current economic crisis.

Michael Corballis is professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Auckland. He has published two books this year: The Recursive Mind: the Origins of Human Language, Thought, and Civilisation (Princeton Press, ISBN 978-0-691-14547-1), and Pieces of Mind: 21 Short Walks Around the Human Brain (AUP, ISBN: 978-1- 86940-492-5).

10:05 Flying Nun Favourites with Bruce Russell

Bruce Russell works in curriculum development for the Faculty of Creative Industries at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology. He also works as a user experience consultant for Wired Internet Group and others. He is the principal adjudicator of the Best Investor Website Award, an annual comparative usability evaluation of the NZX50 websites. Bruce is more widely known in musical circles as a member of noise-rock trio The Dead C, and as a solo artist. He also writes on music and culture, including regular work for UK magazine The Wire. Bruce worked as a publicist for Flying Nun in the mid-1980s, before launching the Xpressway and Corpus Hermeticum labels, and has curated a new Flying Nun archival compilation, Time to Go (to be released 14 November). Another compilation of Flying Nun hits, Tally Ho, will also be released this month (20 November) as part of the label's 30 year birthday celebrations.

Dr Annie Potts is Associate Professor and Co-Director of the New Zealand Centre for Human-Animal Studies at Canterbury University, and is Co-Principal Investigator of the Marsden project, Kararehe: Animals in Art, Writing and Everyday Life in New Zealand (Auckland University Press, forthcoming). Dr Potts discussed the ubiquitous and underestimated fowl, gallus gallus domesticus, at the New Zealand Companion Animal Conference in Auckland this week. Her new book, Chicken (Reaktion Books, ISBN: 978-1-86189-858-6), is part of the Animals series, and will be published in late November.

Kate De Goldi is the author of a number of books, including The 10pm Question which has won a number of awards, most recently the 2011 Corine International Book Prize Young Readers Award. She will discuss three new books:
