Johan Norberg is a senior fellow at the Cato Institute in Washington DC, a libertarian think-tank, and at the European Centre for International Political Economy in Brussels. Stephen Burt is professor of poetry at Harvard University. Identifying as transgender, they like to be referred to using gender neutral language. Stephen Burt recently published a collection of essays, The Poem is You: 60 Contemporary American Poems and How to Read Them (Harvard University Press, ISBN 9780674737877), and their latest poetry collections are Belmont (Graywolf, ISBN: 978-1-55597-644-6) and the chapbook All-Season Stephanie (Rain Taxi, 2015). They are visiting Wellington for a public masterclass, 'Close Calls with Nonsense: How To Read New Poetry' (12 December, 5.30pm, City Gallery), chaired by Bill Manhire and presented by the International Institute of Modern Letters.

Robin Ince is renowned in his native Britain for finding ways to excite the public about science - he tours live shows and creates podcasts, apps and websites.. Robin Ince is joined by a cast of scientists, comedians and performers in the show, Cosmic Shambles LIVE, in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch during April 2017.

William Grill is a London-based writer and illustrator. His first book, Shackleton's Journey (Flying Eye Books, ISBN 978-1-909263-10-9) won the 2015 CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal for distinguished illustration in a book for children. His latest book is The Wolves of Currumpaw (Flying Eye Books. ISBN 978-1-909263-83-3) - the story of Old Lobo, the Wolf King with a price on his head among early European settlers in New Mexico.

 

 

 

11:25 Linda Tyler

Linda Tyler will review 2016: the Year in Art. Linda has been writing on art, design, architecture and fashion since 1984. She's now an associate professor and Director of the Centre for Art Research at the University of Auckland, also directing the Gus Fisher Gallery in Shortland Street, and curating the art collection. Linda also administers Window, an online and onsite student-curated exhibition space.
