April 24 1915 is remembered by Armenians as the day the slaughter began. The Turks started rounding up the Christian Armenian population, and estimated one and a half million were killed. It's a called by a genocide by many, but not by the Turkish government, or our own.

Dr Maria Armoudia, whose family was decimated in 1915 and has called for all the dead to be remembered, talks to Kim Hill.

Dr Maria Armoudian is Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of Auckland.
