In the United States not a week has passed this year without a mass shooting (where four or more people are shot).

Yet as President Barack Obama again laments what he calls the “routine" of gun massacres, his administration has sold more military hardware in its first five years than the Bush administration sold in eight years – $30 billion worth more, mostly to Saudi Arabia.

As senior adviser to the Security Assistance Monitor, Bill Hartaung has written extensively on armament and security issues. He tells Kim Hill that the acceleration of weapons exports under the Obama administration is not what people expected.
