He is best known in the UK for creating the TV show The Thick of It, in which a beleaguered minister tries to cope under the pressure of his army of spin doctors. He also created American political satire Veep.

Iannucci started as a radio producer, creating On the Hour, which in turn spawned numerous Alan Partridge, BAFTA-winning shows co-written with Steve Coogan.

His latest work, a film in production called The Death of Stalin, is a comedic take on the events that transpired after the brutal strongman died in 1953.
