Grayson Gilmour - 'Hundred Waters'
Emerging from a skittering of metallic droplets, an open chorus of voices implore ‘Open Up..’ This is immediately the most classically pop structured song I’ve heard from the Wellington songwriter and composer, and perhaps one of the most overtly emo. It’s immersive, and propulsive, with its climax exploding in lush layers of strings and a refrain of ‘Be the one, to find a way out of here..’ Gilmour’s voice is stronger than it’s ever been, and I’m eagerly awaiting his new album Otherness, out on Flying Nun in July.
