Potential police dogs are fostered in private homes as puppies and assessed for their suitability to be trained for a challenging career. The best dogs are those with the drive to retrieve. The best fosterers are those with time to devote to their charges and provide them with the widest possible range of exposures to things like polished floors and fire escape ladders which can be fearful for puppies.
