Gerard Hindmarsh takes us to a movie at The Village Theatre in Takaka, Golden Bay, and recalls it's tenuous beginnings over 20 years ago.
The Village Theatre in Golden Bay draws a rich mix of locals and holiday makers who come not just to see the wide variety of movies on offer, but to catch up with friends and enjoy the comforts of jaffas and coffee, curled up on sofas and sprawled out on giant floor cushions.
These days comedy shows, book fairs and the annual international Film Festival dot a busy calendar of events.
Current staff join us for a look around, before a colourful local crowd ambles in and the film begins to roll.
