Ben Smith is an Auckland boy. He grew up in Mt Eden and went to Auckland Boys Grammar School. Now Ben lives and works in Berlin. He is a guide on the Alternative Berlin tour and shows Berlin street art to tourists. That is his day job. At other times Ben is a tattoo artist, an art he taught himself. As global as he is, Ben is a JAFA at heart and dreams of returning to New Zealand. Meanwhile Berlin is home for as long as he wants. He can even play cricket there.
In Our Boy In Berlin, Sapna Samant follows Ben Smith on one of his tours around Berlin and finishes off with a Kiwi burger meal at the Aotearoa New Zealand Café as he talks about his life, work and reminisces about 'home'.
