The Mussel Inn in Onekaka in Golden Bay has been an iconic place to visit for nearly 20 years.
You can turn your back on technology and nail your cell phone to the “telephone pole”, enjoy one of the myriad quirky offerings from their brewery (such as Lawn Moa Lager and Pale Whale Ale), relax and bask at a picnic table on their vast courtyard or snuggle up by the open fire indoors.
Andrew and Jane Dixon do things their way – including staff meals, composting toilets and hosting musicians from near and far. Amelia Nurse visits to hear some wicked banjo players and to find out how the Mussel Inn has been so successful for so long.
