Run-down flats and bitterly cold conditions are a fact of life for many students at Otago University in Dunedin. Some of the most substandard properties are highly sought after by students, and because of this, they command hefty rents.

But there's evidence poor housing can harm young people's health, so should landlords be taking the matter more seriously? Emma Lancaster reports from the heart of studentville in Dunedin.
