They’ve trawled the bins for rare Mint Chicks’ 7” and they’ve re-mixed a Connan Mockasin song, but how do UK quintet The Horrors know so much about these local musicians? Kirsten Johnstone and Nick Atkinson found out when the notoriously tight-jean wearing group played Laneway recently. Keyboardist Tom Cowan opened up about the bands lack of success recording in the country side. Listen here.
After relocating to Oakland the artist known as tUnE-yArDs (Merrill Garbus) honed her unique solo set that blends all manner of loops and riffs to form a sound that had a local Kings Arms crowd in raptures when she performed there recently. Kirsten Johnstone welcomes tUnE-yArDs into the studio to record a live session with her trusty tenor ukulele.

This earthy twelve-string playing bluesy roots musician saunters into Radio New Zealand's Wellington studio to play a couple of tracks for The Music Mix. Expect environmental consciousness, tales of a diverse ancestry and lots of slide guitar action.
