Allyson Gofton offers a glimpse into French village life as she reports on a year staying with her family in a remote farmhouse in the Hautes-Pyrenees in Southern France.

The lavishly illustrated book shares more than 50 seasonal local dishes adapted for New Zealand home cooks.

This five-part adaptation focusses on the incidental stories and observations around the people and places -- and produce -- encountered during the remarkable adventure.

Allyson Gofton has been cooking for New Zealanders for nearly 30 years. She is known for her recipes and columns in magazines, her television appearances, radio slots and many personal appearances in the name of charity. Allyson has also written more than 20 cookbooks, including her best-selling series of books BakeCook and Slow, as well as the popular Country Calendar Cookbook with Allyson Gofton and her 2013 bestseller Good Food Made Simple.

Not at all discouraged by a fairly challenging first trip, Allyson has recently returned to France with her family for another adventure.
