THE SMALL PRINT

First up this week - we 'modern' humans have been around for about 150,000 years, and we've always been fond of a bite to eat. Yet we only started deliberately cultivating food around 11,000 years ago, so as you can see we've spent most of our past roaming about the place as hunter gatherers.

So how did we go from being hunter-gatherers to standing in line at the checkout on a weekly food shop? This is what Tom Standage's written about in his new book 'An Edible History of Humanity' and we speak to him at 12:10pm.

Just before the news at one we're heading into the South Pacific, to the tourism destination of Norfolk Island. Visitor numbers are down but the locals who've lived on this rocky outcrop for 150 years are staying positive.

After the news at 1:00pm news from India. There's a shortage of professional coconut pickers and with 16 million of them to be harvested every year the State of Kerala has announced a competition for an automated coconut picking machine plus new micro- finance options for buying a pair of jeans. We'll speak to Tinku Ray at around 1:15pm.

At 1:30pm hunter-gatherer Johanna Knox takes us foraging for Brassicaceae, we hope it's easier to find than it is to spell. It's also known as Cruciferae meaning 'cross-bearing' and is part of the mustard or cabbage family - wild radishes and turnips at half one (WARNING: Do not forage for Brassicaceae where fertiliser's been applied or where there's run off as the leaves store nitrates in high doses which can be toxic).

Then at 1:40pm meet the British designer who's developed a new urban beehive made of plastic, before this he designed the Eggloo a plastic portable chicken coop which he's sold 30,000 so far - we peer inside the Beehaus at about 20 to 2.

Before 2:00pm - it started life as underwear but thanks to James Dean the T shirt is now a modern fashion unit - Hugo Lindgren's a New Yorker has looked at some of the latest trends in T shirt and we'll speak to him at around 1:50pm.
