I got back for a relaxing few weeks away and checked the hive, sadly there were hardly any bees and no fresh eggs or larvae. It looks like my queen has swarmed and it’s all my fault. I didn’t give her or the colony enough room work with – I’d restricted her with a queen excluder to the bottom box, and once it had been filled with honey she decided to head off and set up an new hive. Bad news for my honey production but good for the wild bee populations and all your gardeners out there!
