Simon has his ears vacuumed and finds out why humans produce ear wax. Then he has a hearing test that revealed he's suffering hearing loss. Armed with his results he pays a visit to a otolaryngologist, (that's an ear nose and throat specialist by another name) to find out why he's suffering hearing loss and what to do.

Then he explores some of the consumer and health issues that affect our ears and our hearing, including looking at the latest hearing aid technologies and prices, meets children who've had cochlear implants and speaks to a surgeon operating on these profoundly deaf kids and spend time with them as they learn to speak. He attend a hearing clinic on a marae and looking at some of the funding sources, and recent changes to the way the government manages hearing aid services.
