Christchurch proposes increasing number of councillors, wards

12:25 pm on 1 September 2015

Christchurch voters are being asked for feedback on whether the number of city councillors should be increased.

Consultation has opened on changes to ward and community board boundaries before next year's council elections.

The proposed changes are part of the six-yearly representation review, which looks at councillor numbers and ward and community board boundaries.

The council's initial proposal suggests merging Bank Peninsula with Sumner in a new ward, Banks Peninsula-Sumner, and raising the number of wards and councillors from 13 to 16.

The public have until 9 October to make submissions.
