New Zealand urged to help Pacific neighbours on climate change

8:23 am on 7 September 2015

Oxfam has called New Zealand's one of the "worst performing governments" on climate change, as regional heads prepare for the Pacific Island Forum leaders summit, which is expected to be dominated by the issue.

An Oxfam report, released today to coincide with the meeting in Papua New Guinea, has called on Australia and New Zealand to do more to help their Pacific neighbours.

The report says the two powerhouses are regarded as two of the worst-performing governments when it comes to climate change and are a drag on international efforts.

It says Australia and New Zealand's "woefully inadequate" emissions targets are threatening the very survival of some Pacific nations.
