Top Energy expects power outages across New Zealand's far north to be resolved within the next hour.
Strong winds have brought down two major lines this afternoon in the Waiharara and Kaingaroa areas.
Power has been restored to 900 homes, but more than 400 are still affected by outages.
Top Energy says crews are working to fix the problems and power should be restored to all households by 5pm.
