Government to open embassy in Colombia

10:03 am on 15 September 2015

The Government will open an embassy in Colombia next year to reflect the growing trade relationship between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Murray McCully said Colombia was an increasingly important partner for New Zealand, and had one of the strongest performing economies in South America.

With a population of more than 46 million and solid growth, there were numerous opportunities in Colombia for New Zealand businesses, particularly in areas such as education and investment, he said.

The embassy will be New Zealand's fifth post in Latin America.
