Marlborough councillors have reached a compromise on how to decorate Blenheim's town square for Christmas - they will spend just over half the proposed money on an import from China.
The district council has opted for an eight-metre high tree from China at a cost of $54,000 for Seymour Square.
The original proposal was for a locally produced $100,000, 10-metre high tree.
It will feature $16,000 dollars of Christmas lighting.
