Blenheim liquor outlets caught selling to youths

11:37 am on 24 September 2015

Staff at three Blenheim liquor outlets have been caught selling alcohol to under-age drinkers, after failing to properly check their ages of two young volunteers taking part in a police sting.

Seven premises were visited yesterday, with police working with Marlborough District Council liquor licensing staff.

Police said staff failed to notice the purchasers' date of birth, showing they were under 18, at three of the premises.

Senior Sergeant Peter Payne said those selling alcohol, whether at bars or off-licences, had an obligation to ensure they and their staff made adequate checks to ensure those buying alcohol were of legal age.
