One lane of the main route to the West Coast from Christchurch has reopened.
About 200 cubic metres of rock fell on to SH73 between Arthur's Pass and Otira at 8am this morning, completely blocking it.
One lane has been cleared of the slip, allowing traffic through, but drivers should still expect delays of about 10 minutes.
The Transport Agency said the remainder of the slip should be removed within the next two days.
