Elderly man missing in Canterbury

5:24 pm on 1 October 2015

A team of 25 police and volunteers have begun a search for a 74-year-old man missing in mid-Canterbury.

Raymond Finnie, who has previously suffered a stroke, has not been seen since Friday.

His silver Suzuki Swift was found yesterday on Whitecliffs Road near Hororata and police say it may have been there since Monday.

Search and rescue teams are looking for him in scrub and farmland surrounding the car.

Police say Mr Finnie appeared to be in a confused state the last time he was seen, which search co-ordinator Sergeant Phil Simmonds said could be related to his recent stroke.

Mr Finnie was wearing grey track pants and a dark woollen fishnet jersey.

The search will continue until the sun goes down and, if needed, will resume at first light tomorrow.
