Hospital employee unfair dismissal claim thrown out

A food safety manager who worked at North Shore Hospital has had her unjustified dismissal claim thrown out after the kitchen she worked in was found to be unhygenic.

Padmini Singh's kitchen was linked with an outbreak of Novovirus in 2012 that resulted in 59 patients falling ill with gastroenteritis.

A Ministry for Primary Industries investigation found the culprit may have been a chicken and barley soup, which was served to patients.

A formal warning was issued to Ms Singh's employer, Compass Group.

The Employment Relations Authority has found her dismissal at the beginning of this year was justified.
