Free parking is to be made available in central Christchurch in a bid to attract shoppers back into the city.
City retailers have been struggling to compete with suburban malls since the earthquakes so from next month, the Christchurch City Council will make free parking available at different locations.
Motorists will be advised where to go each week via the council's website.
Parking wardens will also be swapping parking tickets for free parking vouchers to people who have already got their wallets out, ready to feed the meter.
