Dunedin mortuary reopens after asbestos contamination

8:47 pm on 27 October 2015

The mortuary is back in action at Dunedin Hospital after asbestos contamination closed part of the building.

Officials say the mortuary can now be used again by both the Southern District Health Board and the police.

However, family viewing facilities were off-limits for the time being.

White asbestos has been found on four floors of the hospital's clinical services building, including in the radiology department and the main stairwell.

Decontamination teams will continue their clean-up work tomorrow.
