Police are continuing their investigation into an assault at Whanganui Prison that left an inmate with serious head injuries.
The prisoner is in Wellington Hospital's intensive care unit.
Police said the man was assaulted in his cell on Monday afternoon.
Forensic analysis and interviews with staff and inmates are continuing today.
