Former Maori MP Dr Bruce Gregory has died at the age of 78.
The Te Rarawa GP became the member for Northern Maori in 1980 , winning the seat in a by-election following the resignation of Matiu Rata.
Dr Gregory held the seat until 1993.
He died last night in Kaitaia Hospital, after a long illness.
